We don’t just see a beautiful interior, we experience it. A well-designed space engages the senses and nourishes the soul. Do you want your home to be your sanctuary? Then considering all five of the senses will help infuse your home with sacred energy. Add your favorite flowers or plants — even a bowl of fruit. Hang art or images that bring you joy. Light your favorite scented candle, incense or essential oil diffuser. When it comes to sound, I often prefer silence. Silence can be restorative. Though, at times, I will have background music. Music can shift the energy of a room. When used in meditation it can heighten connection to the Universe and your higher self.Here are some tips and inspiration to engage your senses:SightEverything should be pleasing to the eye and reflect your idea of beauty. What do you find beautiful? Surround yourself with beauty. Also remember that what we see triggers emotions, even subconsciously. This could be a piece of furniture that was shared with an ex. It may be rest to donate that piece and replace with something new. Or something passed down from a relative that triggers difficult memories. Or it could even be art that has negative or disturbing energy around. Trust you inner guide on this.TasteSet the table and make another night of takeout more meaningful. Empty food containers onto your favorite dishes and sit at the table to really enjoy your meal. Light a candle to elevate the mood. Let this be your mantra for everyday experiences: Make the mundane more meaningful.SmellIndulge in aromatherapy. Light a scented candle or incense. Add a few drops of essential oils to a spray bottle of water to cleanse the air and freshen fabrics. Lavender promotes a sense of calm while peppermint invigorates. Try sandalwood to enhance meditation.SoundMusic creates mood. It can relax and calm or get your foot to tapping. Create a happy playlist on iTunes or Pandora that it features all the tunes that make you smile.TouchWith the hectic lives we all lead, it is important to come home and be comforted and cozy. Invest in a great mattress and sleeping pillows for your bed. You spend a good chunk of your time there. You’ll want comfy chairs you can curl up in to enjoy a good book or your favorite show. Throw pillows are inviting, and cozy blankets warm the soul. Choose textiles that are soft to the touch.Your home is the foundation for living your best life.
